The Great South Run comes to Portsmouth on Sunday 18 October 2026, with around 25,000 runners expected, and part of the route runs through Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. If you’re visiting the Dockyard that weekend, here are some things to know before you plan your day:
Important Information
Road Closures
The Dockyard will remain open as usual, though road closures will occur across the city during the weekend, so please plan your route in advance if you are heading this way. Access to Queen Street where the main car park entrance will likely be limited for most of the day. For full information on road closures, please see below:
Car Parking
Why not start your adventure at one of our Gosport attractions?
We’ve got free parking, and the Waterbus will provide access to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard if you want to venture over. The Submarine Museum and Explosion teams can’t wait to welcome you!
Refreshments
Although the Dockyard will be open as usual, please note Boathouse 7 and Nauticalia gift shop will reopen around 12pm when the majority of runners have made their way through the track.
For refreshments before this time, head to the Mary Rose café.
Show Your Support
Cheer on the runners from the best seats in the city. Watch from onboard HMS Warrior, or get right up to the barriers running through the centre of the Dockyard. You’ll need a paid entry ticket or Historic Quarter Pass to get in, so book ahead to secure your spot.
