This Sunday 19 October 2025 sees the Great South Run come to Portsmouth! We are happy to share this experience with runners and visitors at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with part of the run being featured through the Dockyard itself.
To best prepare for a visit this Sunday, here are 5 things you need to know about planning a visit this weekend:
Important Information
Road Closures
The Dockyard will remain open as usual, though road closures will occur across the city during the weekend, so please plan your route in advance if you are heading this way. Access to Queen Street where the main car park entrance will likely be limited for most of the day. For full information on road closures, please see the Great South Run website here.
Car Parking
Why not start your adventure at one of our Gosport attractions?
We’ve got free parking, and the Waterbus will provide access to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard if you want to venture over. The Submarine Museum and Explosion teams can’t wait to welcome you!
Refreshments
Although the Dockyard will be open as usual, please note Boathouse 7 and Nauticalia gift shop will be closed until 12pm when the majority of runners have made their way through the track.
For refreshments before this time, head to the Mary Rose café.
Show Your Support
Those with a valid paid entry ticket or Historic Quarter Pass can watch from the sidelines to support those taking part. For those with a paid ticket, why not watch from onboard HMS Warrior, or get up close and cheer from the barriers located through the centre of the historic dockyard.
Time to Relax
The Great South Run is expected to welcome around 23,000 runners this year on Sunday, so if you’re looking for a spot to chill out and relax away from the crowds, why not hop on a Harbour Tour for a 45min relaxing tour of Portsmouth Harbour. Refreshments plus indoor and outdoor seating are available onboard, and our teams onsite will be happy to advise on the tour times on the day of your visit.
We wish all the runners the best of luck for the weekend!
