Launched in 1860, HMS Warrior was Britain’s first iron-hulled, armoured battleship. She was the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet and the largest and fastest ship of its time.
Step aboard and you’ll feel the difference straight away, iron beneath your feet instead of timber, the first Royal Navy ship built this way. Below deck, her engine rooms show the moment steam took over from sail, and you can walk through them for yourself.
Look up from the deck and you’ll see why she made history: her masts and sails alone covered enough canvas for 13 tennis courts.
Step back to 1863 and experience HMS Warrior exactly as the public did during her legendary 12-week tour of Britain. Following tireless conservation, this iron-hulled marvel has been restored to her full Victorian splendor, allowing you to explore everything from her beautifully recreated interiors to the revolutionary engine rooms. The ship’s story truly comes to life through our costumed team, who recreate the atmosphere of the 19th-century Navy; as you walk the decks, you’ll meet the very people who lived and worked aboard during the peak of her service, discovering the secrets of a ship that remains a sight to behold more than 160 years later.
Enjoy the stunning view of Portsmouth Harbour and Gosport, directly from the mizzen mast of HMS Warrior with our webcam. Viewers can see Royal Navy ships across the Camber and inside Portsmouth Naval Base.
The Warrior camera pans between 7 am and 5 pm daily in all weathers, taking in the surrounding area in high fidelity.
