Set Sail for Storytime

Help Captain Compass solve a floating mystery inspired by Someone Swallowed Stanley as families discover how small actions can make a big difference to our oceans. Combining theatre, storytelling and STEM, this engaging adventure explores caring for our marine environment while celebrating the Royal Navy’s enduring connection to the sea.

Something very unusual has been spotted floating near HMS Warrior, and Captain Compass needs your help. Is it treasure? Is it rubbish? Or could it be something much more surprising? Working alongside Eddison and Ratty, young explorers will investigate the mystery and discover what happens when everyday objects find their way into our oceans.

Inspired by Someone Swallowed Stanley, this lively storytelling adventure encourages children to think about pollution, recycling and protecting the incredible wildlife that depends upon healthy seas. Through games, audience participation and imaginative challenges, families will learn why caring for our oceans matters and how everyone can play a part.

For centuries, the Royal Navy has relied on clean, healthy seas for exploration, defence and discovery. This session helps children understand how protecting the marine environment today helps preserve our oceans for future generations of sailors, scientists and explorers.

Supporting the National Year of Reading “Go All In” campaign, the session uses a much-loved story to inspire conversation, curiosity and environmental responsibility.

The journey doesn’t end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Learning Centre in the Victory Gallery, where hands-on activities bring each story’s ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Royal Navy Museums and TYC Arts & Education CIC, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
